Park and ride.

Montrose CTA work yardI have a suggestion for what the CTA can do with the work yards they've set up near all the Brown Line train stations as part of its massive rehabilitation project.

Once construction is finished and the work yards are cleared of equipment and debris, why not develop them into parking lots where people can park and take the train downtown? If the meters allowed day-long parking, or even monthly permits, it would create an additional revenue stream for the cash-strapped CTA, and also provide a way for people to both reduce congestion downtown by using public transportation.

Chances are the CTA would make more money over time with this set-up than it would selling the property, and it provides a public service. Maybe the payment system could even be set up so that the parking fee is charged to your Chicago Card.

Many of the stops towards the end of the brown line (Kedzie, Kimball) do have park and ride stops.

I'd like to see them make 'em into parks. Chicago could use more parks. Aren't we lower on the list in terms of park land?

But the park-n-ride is a more logical idea.
