Hex silliness.

The realization that l33tspeak could be applied to hex values in Photoshop led to a few minutes of frivolity.

UPDATE: A few more, based on your suggestions (I can't believe I missed #C0FFEE the first time!) and some additional ones I came up with:
hex silliness 2: electric boogaloo
That last one adds a second layer of encryption: 23, 20 and 06 are the numbers of W, T and F in the alphabet.

Got any more ideas?

UPDATE 2: Ian at The Box Factory took the idea in another direction: 1337 Hex in Color.

UPDATE 3: Yet another batch, based on suggestions in the comments and a couple of my own:
hex silliness 3: hex harder

Sandy pointed out that because I've been using the "Save for Web" option in Photoshop, these aren't perfectly accurate. If you're planning on using some of these codes in your work for some reason, you'll want to test them first.

Wow, this is the most traffic me3dia's seen in awhile -- where'd I get linked up, or are all of you RSS lurkers?

I guess I should dick around in Photoshop more often. Or maybe just post more often.

Ah, thank you, Messrs. Glass and Cederholm.

SimpleBits linked you. At least, that's how I found you.

Oh, and I also vote for some t-shirts. :)

Assuming that i=1, s=5, o=0, we can have:

$ egrep -i '^[abcdefiso]{6}$' /usr/share/dict/words | sed 's/s/5/gi;s/o/0/gi;s/i/1/gi'| xargs

February 29 2008, 04:41 PM / Becca

I happened upon this site and now am unfortunately aware that my name, BECCA, makes one of my least favorite colors. I think it's called "sea foam," but I like to call it "dolphin vomit."

February 29 2008, 09:41 PM / Ned Batchelder

It's a little less creative, but my scan of the dictionary came up with 136 six-letter color words: http://nedbatchelder.com/text/hexcolors.html

Not that this green is much manly, but it would've been fun if #bada55 returned pink. ;)

I see Stuart and Ned's game ruining and raise you a quartet of varyingly strict word lists that I threw together this morning. Different levels of leetness, for all your ab3c3d4rian needs.

Fun project, Andrew.
