Painting again. This time it's art.

I've started an oil painting, the first one I've done in years -- practically since high school. I re-gessoed one I did do in high school, which featured very nicely rendered brush technique and a big smiley face in the middle. It was a joke/political statement at the time, but that time is long past, so I wanted to reuse the canvas.

The painting is actually a bit darker than it looks in the photo, if you can imagine. The brown is umber, with a purple-ish pink, red and yellow mixed in. It's all laid down with a palette knife.

I really didn't have much of an aim except to create an interesting texture. My original plan was to then do something more figurative over this; for some reason I keep picturing a trompe l'oiel long-stemmed flower. But I'm not quite sure. I picked up three 4"x4" canvases and painted them to match the big one, so I can do some tests. Or maybe I'll just leave it.

It's awesome--gorgeous. It reminds me of Keiffer's work. I'd hang it in my place without question.
