January 2, Electric Boogaloo

I'm taking today off, so as to complete various projects at home. (I spent a good portion of the 01/01 "christmas" shopping for members of Cinnamon's family -- we're heading to Columbus next weekend to visit them and exchange presents -- and formatting the GB staff's Top Ten lists. That is, after getting up around noon.) Therefore, this is it for me3dia today. Enjoy your weekend!

I enjoyed the top 10 lists over at Gapers Block, but I have some other suggestions for your "Ten Chicago-Specific Words or Phrases, and Their Context."

1.) Jag-Off or Jag. Pure Chicago and can only be used in this town. ie. "That guy is such a jag-off!" (works especially well when the next sentence uses "couple two tree") :)
2.) Instead of "The Cell", it should be "The Joan"

I've yet to hear "the Joan," but I like it!
Thanks!

Those top-ten lists are pretty great for someone who is just getting ready to move back to Chicago.

But I have a few gripes (which I'll share with the rest of the Gapers Block people too) - one being: Chipotle??? This place says nothing about Chicago. I mean, greater Chicago has about one and a half million Latinos, and the best burritos are to be found in the kitchen counters at any Mexican grocery store in town.

The other: what's up with the list of where people from Chicago don't go?

If you don't do the touristy stuff every once in a while, you might forget why this city looks so great to outsiders. Plus, with the exception of numbers 9, 3 (the fakes), and 1, IMO, these are places that helped make this city so great.

Hmm. Maybe I would just change the headline for the others to Top Ten Places People from Chicago Don't Go To Any More. Or something. But even that shouldn't be true.
