Sigh
The risotto was unusual but tasty. It turned out we didn't have enough basmati rice, so I used a little brown rice and barley to fill it out. Other substitutions included champagne for white wine and duck broth for the usual chicken or vegetable. The shredded duck and sauteed mushrooms were a nice pairing though, and the barley gave it a chewier mouthfeel than it would normally have. I was satisfied.
Then I sat down to work on the Huff Report while I watched the Cubs game. That was less satisfying. Watching the Cubs leave go-ahead runners on third two innings in a row was frustrating enough, but watching Sosa's clutch home run to tie and force extra innings go to waste because of lousy pitching was too much. Made me glad to be a White Sox fan -- at least my disappointment is behind me.
Posted by Andrew Huff at October 8, 2003 03:13 PMi was just saying i'd like to perfect the art of risotto - just a great dish for the coming cooler weather, i think.
