Andy Huff

Once upon a time, I wasn't Andrew. I was Andy -- or, more specifically, I was Andyhuff, one word, no breaks. The last time I was called that with any regularity was a little over 10 years ago...until Saturday night. On Saturday for about 5 hours in the evening I was Andy again.

The reunion was interesting. About 200 people supposedly showed up, although that number included spouses, so I'm not sure how many alumni were there. I caught up with a number of good old friends, some of whom I hadn't seen at all in the intervening decade. As is not surprising, I also ended up talking with people I barely knew bak then, and found that in some cases we had a lot in common.

I wish more of my high school friends had made it. It would have been nice to see Bryant, Rob, Wil, Jill, Joanna and Jerry, but I had a great time anyway with Katrina, Jeremy, Amanda, Lisa and Charlotte. The biggest surprise was Chris -- we knew him as Stiffy back then, a cruel nickname based on his last name. He came on a whim all the way from Phoenix, and ended up having a great time, no small amount due to Cinnamon, who ended up hanging out with him a good deal of the evening. We ended up taking him up to the Deluxe Diner afterward for some much-needed food -- how could they serve that much alcohol and not provide a substantial buffet? -- and talked till 3am. We'll be giving him a call around Christmastime to hang out when we're out that way.

I'm hoping to stay in touch with a few of those people, but I'm realistic: most will fade back into the mists of time, and this brief interlude will be nothing more than that. And maybe we'll catch up again in another 10 years, but more likely never again.
