The Weekend
Despite having two parties this weekend, our apartment looks darn good.
Yeah, we took advantage of having to clean the apartment for Sunday's Movie Dictator night and had a bunch of people over on Saturday night. Veronica and Tony, Mike and Em, Jim and Amy, Shylo and Brian, Fil and Karen, Phineas and Naz (er, not as couples, those last four) all showed up during the evening, making it a lively event indeed.
On Sunday, for our first Movie Dictator night, we "forced" everyone to watch The Warriors and The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T under the dual themes of "Just the boys" and "Come out and play your piano." They proved good choices, with plenty of opportunity for sarcasm and wit. While we ate dinner (coney dogs in honor of the Warriors' home turf, and a Jello mold and technicolor cheese balls to match Dr. Seuss's aesthetic) we watched a couple episodes of Good Eats.
After the last guest left last night, Cinnamon and I collapsed on the couch, exhausted from all that entertaining and ready for the weekend. Imagine our surprise when the alarm rang this morning, announcing the arrival of Monday.
Posted by Andrew Huff at September 29, 2003 02:20 PMOh Warriors! Come out to Plaaaa-ay.
DJ ZTrip makes excellent use of Warriors samples on his magnum opus, Uneasy Listening. Highly recommended.
Posted by: Eric Sinclair at September 29, 2003 02:52 PMCool! I'll have to track that down.
Posted by: Andrew at September 29, 2003 03:28 PMBest line in 5,000 Fingers: "Holy gosh, I must've doped off, pop!" I saw the movie in a theatre in Santa Cruz one time, and the hipper-than-thou audience definitely thought this was the highlight.
Posted by: jima at September 29, 2003 04:25 PMWell, since we were focusing on the homophobic/homoerotic elements in the film, the scene with Dr. T talking about his "do-me-do duds" was quite the hilarious show-stopper.
Posted by: Cinnamon at September 29, 2003 04:27 PMSo, you're saying Phineas and Naz are not a couple?
Posted by: amyc at September 30, 2003 06:55 AMWell, not yet, although they did leave at the same time. Hmm...
Posted by: Andrew at September 30, 2003 10:37 AMAhh, yes. Dr. Terwilliger being dressed by a cadre of prissy-looking footmen. Surely they must have seen him naked before!
And what was the deal with Dr. T keeping all those ... musical gentlemen in the dungeon? They certainly seem to be having a great time, playing their ... instruments and dancing about merrily.
Posted by: jima at September 30, 2003 10:56 AMThese movies brought out the HoNay! in all of us. I'm still having nightmares about Happy Fingers. But the company and eats were wonderful, and your place so lovely. Thanks so much for hosting!
