Out Out, Damn Spot
In the bathroom next to my office, there is a single drop of red paint on the floor in front of the toilet. It must be an enamel or oil-based paint, because it still gleams as if wet, years after it dried. It surprises me every time I see it.
There is nothing in the office, let alone that bathroom, that is painted red, so it's a bit of a mystery how it got there. Who was painting something a deep crimson, and why did they do it in the bathroom? Maybe they came in the there to wash their hands, dripping one small drop on the chocolate brown tiles before returning to their work, perhaps in another part of the building.
It always catches me off-guard because each time I notice it, I instinctively wonder, who's blood is that?

Posted by: Naz at September 9, 2003 02:40 PMA most excellent, excellent practical joke.
Could it be the primer for painting the stall?
More likely, it was a practical joke.
Posted by: brian at September 9, 2003 04:09 PMIt could be fingernail polish.
Or it could be a drop of blood from another dimension.
Posted by: Cinnamon at September 9, 2003 04:29 PMAh, I bet it's fingernail polish -- there's no stall to be primed, and the walls have been wallpapered for probably a decade.
Good call!
