...fivetwofive...
I've spent the last couple nights working on a redesign. I'm getting a little tired of this look, and rather than fix the various problems that it causes for ancillary pages (archives, section pages, etc.) I've decided to come up with something new.
Redesigning a website is a lot like remodeling a house, or even building one from scratch. You know there are certain things that need to be in it -- a door, windows, navigation links, columns -- but there are so many other things are variable and require decisions to be made, comprimizes to be reached, problems to be resolved.
I visited my parents' new house today at lunch. It's nearing completion -- the kitchen cabinets await installation, the hardwood floors in the dining and living rooms show their pattern beneath the saw- and drywall dust. the front door is in. It's amazing to think that the culmination of more than a year of work and planning is almost here. They're out of their old house, and the new one is nearly complete. Right now it's at version 0.9 -- almost out of beta, not quite fully functional but close enough to see what the final release will look like. In a month or so, content will be dropped in, and a couple weeks after that the official launch/holiday party will occur.
For the first time, I'm excited for my parents regarding this thing.
You know what else needs to be in your re-designed site? Some good content.

Posted by: Peter at October 23, 2002 04:32 PMIs that what you say about the girls?
"Yeah, I jumped that opportunity. She was fine!"
I like to go for the more eloquent "jumped on that opportunity"
