Our friends, The Purvi, celebrated their anniversary a couple weeks ago. We gave them a custom travel kit to take on a trip to New York for a family reunion. It included such travel essentials as:
+ Styrofoam cooler
+ Ho-Hos
+ beef jerky
+ juice boxes
+ neck pillow
+ Hank Williams Jr. tape
+ map
+ dog treats
+ road flares
Not the most romantic anniversary present, I know, but very practical. I learned just how practical this morning.
Emily called this morning from a Chevy dealership in South Bend, Indiana. The alternator gave out at about midnight just outside town, and they ended up using all the road flares we gave them to make sure the speeding semis didn't hit their van while they waited an hour for a tow truck. It took them to the Chevy dealership, where they slept in the van under the intense lights of the parking lot, with their two dogs and Em's brother. There was a Taco Bell next to the dealership, and, this being semi-urban Indiana, there was a whole lot of cruisin' goin' on, boom boxes blaring and tires screeching.
Despite all this, they called to see if we wanted to go to the Cubs game tonight. They're such troopers. Or crazy, I'm not sure which.
See ya there. I think we're in 116.
